Is Blogging Still Worth It in 2026? An Honest Answer for the AI Era
In this article
    Quick answer

Blogging is still worth it in 2026 for people who write from real experience in a clear niche and turn readers into an email list, clients or product buyers. It is no longer worth it as a quick “write generic posts, get Google traffic, earn from ads” plan. Ahrefs found AI Overviews are linked to a 58% lower click-through rate for top-ranking pages, so generic answer posts lose most.

You hear two things at once. “Blogging is dead, AI ne sab traffic kha liya.” And “Indian bloggers earn lakhs every month.” Both are half true. Before you spend six months writing, you deserve a straight answer on what changed, what still works and whether you should start at all.

Is blogging worth it in 2026? The short verdict

It depends on the kind of blog you plan to run. Here is the honest split.

Blog type Worth it in 2026? Why
Generic “what is / how to” posts on broad topics Mostly no AI answers these right on the search page
Rewritten news or copied listicles No No reason for Google or readers to pick you
First-hand reviews, tests and comparisons Yes Real experience is hard for AI to copy
Local or niche expertise (Jaipur property, Rajasthan travel, a specific profession) Yes Specific questions still send clicks
Blog that supports your service or business Yes, strongly One client can pay more than months of ad income
Blog + email newsletter + community Yes You own the audience, not the algorithm

What AI Overviews did to blog traffic

This is the part most “start a blog” videos skip. The data is clear enough to plan around.

    • Fewer clicks when AI answers. Pew Research tracked 900 US adults’ real browsing in March 2025. When a Google AI summary appeared, people clicked a regular result on 8% of visits, against 15% when there was no summary. Only about 1% clicked a link inside the summary (Pew Research Center).
    • The drop grew. Ahrefs studied 300,000 keywords and found AI Overviews linked to a 58% lower average CTR for the top-ranking page in December 2025, up from 34.5% in its earlier study. Even position two lost about half its clicks (Ahrefs, February 2026).
    • Google’s side of the story. Google says total organic clicks are “relatively stable” and that sites with first-hand perspectives, in-depth reviews and original analysis are seeing growth, while others lose (Google, August 2025).
    • India is in this too. AI Mode launched in India in June 2025, added Hindi in September 2025 and then seven more Indian languages, including Tamil, Telugu and Marathi (TechCrunch).

Put together: the traffic did not vanish, it moved. It moved away from generic answers and towards experience, depth and brands people search for by name.

Top Indian bloggers and how they earn

The old version of this post was a “top 10 Indian bloggers earning lakhs per month” list. We have removed the income numbers. Most “₹X lakh per month” figures you see online are estimates with no source, often published by blogs ranking themselves, and the bloggers rarely confirm them. What is worth learning is the model each one built.

Blogger Blog What the blog grew into
Amit Agarwal Labnol (Digital Inspiration) Tech how-tos plus his own Google Workspace add-ons and tools
Shradha Sharma YourStory A full startup media company with events and sponsored content
Harsh Agrawal ShoutMeLoud Blogging and WordPress guides earning through affiliate partnerships
Sandeep Jain GeeksforGeeks A programming platform with courses and premium plans
Archana Doshi Archana’s Kitchen A recipe brand with video content and brand partnerships
Arun Prabhudesai Trak.in Business news site with a large YouTube presence
Malini Agarwal MissMalini An entertainment and influencer media brand

Several of these began as one person’s blog and are now companies with teams, so their revenue today comes from a business, not from a single writer’s posts. The lesson: none of them stayed “just a blog with AdSense”. Each became a brand, a product or a company. Many also started when competition was far lower, so copying their path step by step in 2026 will not give the same result.

How bloggers earn in 2026: models that still work

Model How money comes AI-search risk Good fit for
Display ads Per page view High: needs big traffic, which AI cuts Large sites only
Affiliate Commission on sales Medium: honest, tested reviews still get clicks People who actually use the products
Lead generation for your service Clients from readers Low: one lead can be worth a lot Freelancers, consultants, local businesses
Email newsletter (sponsored or paid) Sponsors or subscribers Low: you own the list Niche experts
Own digital products or courses Direct sales Low once trust exists Bloggers with a loyal audience
Blog as a portfolio Jobs or freelance work None Students building content writing or SEO careers

“Write every post as if a real customer will read it and decide whether to call you. If the post could have been written by anyone, AI will answer it instead of you.”

Is blogging dead? What gets hit and what survives

    Hit hardest

    • Definitions and simple facts (“What is GST?”, “Capital of Australia”)
    • Thin listicles with no testing or opinion
    • Mass-produced AI posts on sites with no real author

    Still earning clicks

    • Posts with your own photos, tests, numbers and mistakes
    • Comparisons and “which should I choose” decisions
    • Local, specific and fresh information
    • Content from a person or brand that people already trust and search for by name

Google itself says there are no special tricks needed for AI Overviews; the same SEO basics apply (Google Search Central). Our 2026 SEO strategy guide covers how to rank in both Google and AI answers, and keyword research with AI shows how to pick questions worth writing about.

A 90-day test before you commit

    1. Week 1–2: Pick one niche where you have real experience. List 30 specific questions people ask you.
    2. Week 3–8: Publish 12–15 deep posts. Add your own examples, photos or data to each.
    3. Week 3 onwards: Add an email signup or WhatsApp channel link to every post.
    4. Week 9–12: Check Search Console. Which posts get impressions? Which bring signups? Double down on those.

If after 90 days you are still enjoying the writing and seeing some impressions, continue. If you hate writing, stop. That is useful information too.

Who should not start a blog in 2026

    • You want quick income from ads within a few months.
    • You plan to publish AI-written posts without adding your own knowledge.
    • You have no topic you know better than the average person.
    • You will not build an email list or any second channel. One algorithm change could end everything.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is blogging dead in 2026?

No, but generic blogging is struggling. AI Overviews answer simple questions on the search page, so posts that only repeat common facts lose clicks. Blogs built on first-hand experience, local knowledge, honest reviews or a real business still get traffic and leads. The model changed from “traffic for ads” to “trust for customers”.

Kya blogging se aaj bhi paise kama sakte hain?

Yes, but usually not from ads alone. In 2026 bloggers mostly earn through affiliate reviews they have actually tested, leads for their own services, newsletters and their own digital products. Expect slow growth for the first months. Anyone promising fixed monthly blogging income is not giving you the full picture.

How long does a new blog take to earn money?

There is no fixed timeline. It depends on niche competition, how often you publish, content quality and your earning model. Ad income needs large traffic, which takes the longest. Using a blog to win freelance clients or sell a service can bring money sooner because you need fewer readers, just the right ones.

Can I use AI to write my blog posts?

You can use AI for outlines, research help and editing. But posts that are only AI text add nothing new, and that is exactly what AI Overviews replace. Add your own experience, examples, photos and opinions. Google rewards helpful, people-first content however it is made, but readers can tell when nobody real is behind it.

Blogging or YouTube: which is better in 2026?

Choose by your strength. If you think well in writing and like research, blogging plus a newsletter suits you. If you are comfortable on camera, YouTube may grow faster. Many successful creators use both: video for reach, a blog for search and detailed answers. Start with one and add the other later.

Which blog niche is best for Indian beginners?

The best niche is one where you have real knowledge and where readers spend money: your profession, a skill you use daily, local travel or property, or a product category you actually buy. Avoid broad niches like “tech news” or “health tips” where big brands and AI already dominate.

Your next step: write down three topics you could answer questions about for a year without getting bored. If one of them also helps someone spend money or make a decision, you have a niche worth testing. Call or WhatsApp +91 97828-60519 if you want a trainer to check it with you.
